If you would have told me 2 years ago that I would have the opportunity to photograph a festival like SXSW some day, I would have said you were crazy. Myself, as well as 4 other staff members from Blare Magazine based out of Toronto, all made the trip down to Austin,TX and jammed ourselves into one hotel room for six nights. I spent majority of my time from Wednesday until Saturday walking from venue to venue trying to photograph as many artists as I can. Within the next week or so, I will be posting a day-by-day insight as to what my SXSW experience was truly like.
We arrived at the hotel on Tuesday night around 9:30pm and we didn’t have time to make it to the Convention Center to pick up our passes before it closed at 10pm. We decided that instead of bumming around in the hotel room, we ventured off into the downtown core to get a feel for the city. The legendary producer Just Blaze was playing a DJ set at a bar called La Zona Rosa that night, so we all made our way there, had some drinks and got acquainted as some of us had never met before. Once the show was over, we walked back down 6th Street, had some pizza slices and then made our way back to the hotel to crash for the night in order to get a fresh start in the morning.
